The Saints Rest Missionary Baptist Church was organized by the late Rev. A.W. White in 1945. Services were held in the home of Deacon and Sister Levie (Mamie) Rogers on Eunice Street. The six (6) charter members were Brother and Sister Rogers, Sister Tella Nolan, Sister Laura Halstead, Sister Betty Carter, and Brother S.O. Shefield. The church elected its first officers and organized a Sunday School. The four men elected to serve as deacons were Brother Shefield, Brother Rogers, Brother Clay, and Brother Bass. The church purchased property upon which to build and began to experience growth in membership.
